Klein D228-8: My Go-To Cutters for 20+ Years
I’ve been carrying Klein D228-8 diagonal cutters in my tool bag since before smartphones existed, and there’s a reason they’re still there. These aren’t the prettiest pliers on the market, and Klein hasn’t reinvented the wheel with fancy features – they’ve just built cutters that work, day in and day out.
The short jaw gets into tight spots behind air handlers where longer pliers won’t fit, and those beveled cutting edges still bite through 12-gauge control wire like it’s nothing. I’ve replaced the screwdrivers in my pouch a dozen times over, but these cutters? Still going strong on the same pair.
If you’re tired of buying “professional grade” tools that quit after six months, the D228-8 is what actual reliability looks like. They’re not cheap, but neither is replacing tools every season.
